What the calculator takes into account
For each marketplace, the percentage sales commission for the selected product type (including tiers and minimum fees), fixed fees per order or item, the monthly base fee and your own costs for shipping, packaging and other items. As with the marketplaces, the commission is calculated on the gross amount including shipping.
The calculator deducts VAT according to the tax treatment: standard at 19 % or 7 %, under the margin scheme only from the difference between sale and purchase, and not at all for small businesses. Without input tax deduction, the VAT on fees is a cost factor; this is included for small businesses.
Where the fees come from
The rates for Amazon, eBay and Kaufland come from the marketplaces' official fee pages, for eBay with the rates valid since 1 July 2026. OTTO only publishes its commissions in its partner portal; the values come from a third-party source and are labelled accordingly. Where a category is not clearly assigned, there is a note. If a rate is missing, the calculator doesn't use €0 but asks you to enter the rate.
Fees change regularly. Before making decisions, check the current terms with the marketplace – for example in Amazon's revenue calculator or in Kaufland's Seller Portal.
Example: used smartphone
A used smartphone, bought for €200, sold for €319, under the margin scheme: the VAT is €19. On eBay, used goods in the “Handys & Kommunikation” (mobile phones & communication) category incur 5 % commission plus a €0.45 fixed fee, i.e. €16.40. Amazon and Kaufland don't list smartphones separately in their tables; we use the rate for consumer electronics (7 % of the total price) and point this out. You can see the differences in profit before fixed costs in euros right away above.
Frequently asked questions
Which marketplace is the cheapest?
It depends on the product type, price and condition. For used electronics, eBay has granted a reduced rate of 5 % since July 2026, but a fixed fee per order is added. Amazon, Kaufland and OTTO also charge a monthly base fee.
Are fees calculated on the gross or net price?
Amazon, eBay and Kaufland calculate the commission on the total amount including shipping and VAT. The fees themselves are plus VAT, which you get back with input tax deduction.
Why are some categories missing for OTTO?
OTTO doesn't publish its commissions publicly. Where we don't have a reliable value, you enter the rate from your partner portal yourself.
Are Amazon shipping fees (FBA) included?
No. The calculator assumes you ship yourself. You can enter FBA fees as other variable costs.
